Gordon Groome produced this set of photographs to raise interest among publishers about a book on English Cathedrals and Parish Churches. It is the start of a larger project to document all the Cathedrals of England as well as selected Parish Churches representative of various styles of architecture.
An attempt has been made to render the textures of stone, marble, woodwork and glass in a faithful manner, while at the same time revealing the quality of light and atmosphere which are so essential to their appreciation and understanding.
A technical 5x4 camera with movements has been used in order to control accurately the geometry of image and to avoid converging verticals.

Sadly Gordon passed away in November 2005
